LCCI welcomes solar power project

May 06:

LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Tuesday welcomed the commissioning of first-ever 100MW solar power plant that would help save huge foreign exchange on the oil import bill.

In a statement, LCCI President Ijaz A Mumtaz said that indigenous resources like sun and wind should be used continuously to overcome the energy crisis and reduce dependence on imported fuel.

The Lahore Chamber president appealed to the domestic users to utilise solar means of power generation at their residences to reduce load on the national grid and ensure availability of electricity for trade and industry.

Mumtaz said that the government should also expedite work on hydro power projects so the masses could get cheaper electricity.

The project is owned 100 percent by the government of Punjab, Bank of Punjab.

The turnkey contractor for the project is Tebian Electric Apparatus (TBEA) Xinjiang Sun Oasis Co Ltd.
