Petrobras to take part in wind power auction

December 9, 2009 11:30 (GMT-0400)

Brazilian federal energy company Petrobras (NYSE: PBR) will take part in the country's first wind power auction to be hosted on December 14, the company's gas and energy director Maria das Graças Foster said.

"We already have the area where wind farms should be installed. Our company has also submitted projects for certification," she told journalists at company headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.

Foster declined to comment on investment figures for Petrobras' planned wind projects.

"What I can say now is that our wind projects are big," she said.

Earlier this year, Petrobras had said it was assessing five wind farm projects.

The company since 2004 has had a 1.8MW pilot project in Rio Grande do Norte state that provides power to its Macau, Serra, Aratum and Salina Cristal production fields.
