Mora County considers oil and gas drilling issue again

June 12:

ALBQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A northeastern New Mexico county that unsuccessfully tried to ban a type of oil and gas drilling may consider imposing a moratorium while it drafts a new proposal to impose strict limitations.
Mora County was sued over its 2013 ban of hydraulic fracturing, resulting in a federal judge overturning it in January.
The Albuquerque Journal(http://goo.gl/4WJo1A ) reports that the county Commissioner George Trujillo said a new measure imposing limitations could be similar to ones already on the books in Las Vegas and Santa Fe County.
According to Trujillo, the commission could consider the issue during a July 14 meeting or possibly sooner.
Hydraulic fracturing extracts oil and natural gas from the ground by injecting water, sand or gravel and chemicals at high pressure into cracks beneath the earth's surface.
