Equipment specialist GT Advanced Technologies (GTAT) said it was assessing fire damage to the former Apple sapphire making equipment housed in the Arizona facility that caught fire last week due to a potentially faulty PV rooftop array.
GTAT noted that it still retained 2,135 ASF sapphire furnaces at the facility, which in a certain area was exposed to water and the facility as whole exposed to smoke.
The fire was said to have occurred in an area of the solar array located on the roof of the building directly above the loading dock.
The facility was initially built and owned by First Solar.
