Lahore - A good number of electricity workers staged a protest demonstration in the provincial capital on Tuesday outside Lesco Headquarters against the proposed privatisation of electricity distribution companies. The protest was led by Khursheed Ahmad, Secretary General of All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Labour Union, Rana Shakoor Vice Chairman and other office bearers of the union
After hearing about talks between the Lesco administrations and a privatisation consultative team, the protesters reached Wahdat Road and surrounded a guest house where the negotiations were taking place. The demonstrators chanted slogans as they cut off the electricity to the guest house and staged a sit-in. Negotiations between the Lesco administration and the privatisation team had to be called off without any conclusion as the officials fled the location.
The protesters, who have been demonstrating for two days, said they will not accept privatisation of the public utility company at any cost.
