Petronas’ Bukit Tua field in Indonesia produces first oil

May 22:

Petronas has produced first oil from the Bukit Tua field in Indonesia, a key milestone in its upstream operations.
Located in the Ketapang Block approximately 110km offshore East Java, the Bukit Tua field will initially produce 3,700 barrels of oil per day (bopd) and two million standard cubic feet of gas per day (mmscfd).

Petronas general manager and Indonesia operations country chairman Hazli Sham Kassim said: "We are proud that the Bukit Tua field has come on stream today and this is Petronas' biggest upstream project in Indonesia, so far.

"This upstream project is an integrated development as it also involves the development of other supporting facilities such as Ratu Nusantara Floating Production, Storage and Offloading facility (FPSO), a 110km subsea pipeline and a 4.7ha onshore receiving facility (ORF)."

The company expects the field to produce 20,000bopd of oil and 50mmscfd of gas.

Petronas plans to transport gas produced from the field through a pipeline to the ORF in Gresik, East Java, while the oil will be offloaded to carriers for export.

Petrogas Jatim Utama, which is owned by the East Java provincial Government, agreed to purchase gas from the Bukit Tua field, to meet energy demand in the region.

Petronas' Indonesian subsidiary PC Ketapang II (PCK2L) operates the Ketapang block with 80% stake, while Saka Ketapang Perdana, a subsidiary of state-owned Perusahaan Gas Negara, holds the remaining stake.
