Bay Village mail-in voters put naturual-gas aggregation ahead at polls

May 05:

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio -- Early voters want Bay Village and its residents to join the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council and receive bulk rates on natural gas.

According to unofficial results from the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, 88 percent of mail-in voters are in favor of gas aggregation, while 12 percent of voters oppose it.

If Issue 6 passes, all Bay natural gas customers would be enrolled in the NOPEC program unless they indicate they'd rather buy gas on their own. More than 180 communities in 10 counties buy gas and-or electricity through NOPEC.

NOPEC is footing the $26,400 bill to have a special election today for this issue. Otherwise, it would have appeared on the November ballot, city officials have said.
