Russia jet fuel exports to grow in 2015: Rosneft

January 19:
ANTWERP: Russia's exports of aviation fuel will rise significantly in 2015 with production growing to above 13 million tonnes due to refinery modernisation, an official at state-run oil producer Rosneft said on Monday.

Russia is set to produce around 10.2 million tonnes of jet fuel in 2015 at its refineries in the west of the country, compared with a maximum forecast domestic demand of 7.4 million tonnes,Yuriy Timofeyev, deputy director of planning at Rosneft said in a presentation during the Platts 5th annual middle distillates conference in Antwerp.

"There will be a significant growth in jet exports," he said, without giving specific figures.

Western Russian refiners produced 8.9 million tonnes of jet fuel in 2014, while domestic demand was 7.4 million tonnes.

Jet fuel production in eastern Russia, which is largely exported to Asia, will remain relatively stable in 2015, rising to 2.9 million tonnes from 2.8 million tonnes a year earlier. Production will however grow to 3.8 million tonnes in 2016, according to Rosneft.

Changes in Russia's export duty for refined products that were put in place at the beginning of the year mean that domestic demand for aviation fuel could be as low as 5.9 million tonnes in 2015 as international airlines will opt to re-fuel outside Russia, Timofeyev said.

The lack of infrastructure for jet fuel could nevertheless hamper Russia's export capability and refiners might opt to blend the jet fuel into the diesel export, Timofeyev said.

Russia is a major exporter of diesel and is expected to produce around 78 million tonnes of the fuel in 2015.
