One of the world’s largest solar panel makers Yingli Solar began construction of a 20 megawatt (MW) solar power plant, it was announced today.
The plant located in Shule County in China’s Xinjiang Province will generate roughly 28 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity each year.
The company reckons it will offset around 17,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually. The equivalent to planting 21 million trees.
Mr Liansheng Miao, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Yingli Solar commented: “We aim to expand our operations and accelerate the growth of the clean energy economy throughout Xinjiang Province, where we have already developed over 100 MW of solar projects.”
Construction of the plant will supply around 30% of the county’s electricity added the company.
