Russian supply at risk

Officials from Moscow, Kiev and Brussels will restart talks regarding Russian gas supplies, Reuters reported on Sunday.

The discussions will work to resolve a dispute over price, a Russian energy ministry official reportedly said on Sunday.

“The next [round] of trilateral negotiations will take place tomorrow evening in Brussels,” a spokeswoman for the ministry reportedly said.

Russian energy minister Alexander Novak, his Ukrainian counterpart Yuri Prodan and the European Union’s energy commissioner Guenther Oettinger will meet to resolve negotiations.

Russian state company Gazprom and Ukraine’s Naftgaz met for two days in Berlin last week to try and settle the dispute which could seriously threaten gas supply through Europe.

The countries are disagreeing on how much Naftogaz will have to pay for the gas.

Ukraine has to pay off its debt to Gazprom by 10 June or Russia has threatened to cut off its gas supplies to its neighbour.

Speaking to reporters after talks with the Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko last week, President Vladimir Putin said the companies were close to reaching a final agreement on the price.
