TORREVIEJA HAS PIPED GAS

May 25:

The pretend switch on in February

The councillor for works and services in the city of Torrevieja, Javier Montoro, has announced that piped natural gas has been delivered to the first customers in the city this week.
Gas Natural Cegas has been laying the foundations for the network for some time, and have now switched on the supply in the Los Balcones area of the city. The active area also includes the Torrevieja hospital, which also allows them to replace their original liquefied gas supply to a healthier, cleaner and more cost effective fuel.
The collaboration between the company and Torrevieja town hall was affirmed in a symbolic switch on in February, when the Mayor, Eduardo Dolón, turned the key at the site on calle Mar Jónico in the area of Barrio de San Roque.
In a press conference at the time, it was explained how seven million euro had been invested in the 45 kilometre distribution network, with the aim of connecting 96,800 homes and businesses in the next two years, providing cheaper, cleaner and more efficient energy to the residents of the municipality.
Once established, the network will also cover Orihuela, Redován, Benejúzar, Algorfa, Benijófar, Los Montesinos and Torrevieja, with anticipated savings of up to 40% on a household energy bill.
Natural gas is considered as the most competitive and environmentally friendly fuel available at the moment, which also helps to provide a more efficient energy supply to homes.
The work has now extended to calles Rafal and La Paz in Torrevieja by a company established more than 160 years ago in Valencia, with some 644,500 supply points and a distribution network of over 7,800 kilometres so far.
The company supplies natural gas to 195 municipalities of Valencia and continues to invest heavily to extend their natural gas supply to new areas as well as strengthening their distribution network and transportation links.
