Tanzania: Firms Line Up for Tanzania Logistics Contracts

May 26:

Dar es Salaam — The Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA) has signed up four firms for the provision of services to multinationals engaged in oil and gas exploration in southern Tanzania.
The EPZA Director General, Dr Adelhelm Meru said the deals mark an important stage in the establishment of the oilfield supply base.
He said the four companies are Schlumberger Seaco Inc from the United States, Altus Tanzania Limited of Singapore, Tans Ocean Industries and Services of Dubai and Lenna from Iran.
UK's BG Group and Norway's Statoil are a major force in Tanzania offshore gas exploration.
EPZA is developing the 10-hectare Freeport Zone in Mtwara, as part of the 110ha designated area the government set aside for investment purposes.
Under the agreement signed in Dar es Salaam, last week the proposed complex will be used as an oil field supply base. The logistics are to be allocated land to set up the required infrastructure
Dr. Meru said the process of engaging the companies started in 2010, after firms involved in gas and oil exploration requested such service providers.
"These companies have experience and expertise in the industry," he said.
He said the coming of the multinational companies to serve oil and gas exploration firms in Mtwara would help stimulate other sectors in the region such as hotels and agriculture. It would also provide job opportunities.
