Iraq's autonomous region of Kurdistan has slammed Baghdad's recent legal bid to thwart oil exports via Turkey.

The Kurdistan Regional Government said Sunday the Iraqi Oil Ministry's request for arbitration against Ankara is a "hollow threat" that will fail.

On Friday, the Iraqi Oil Ministry filed for arbitration at the Paris-based International Chamber of Commerce after crude from Kurdistan was exported and sold via a Turkish part without Baghdad's consent.

The dispute centers around interpretations of Iraq's constitution. Baghdad insists it has the sole right to export Iraq's crude oil, while Turkey and Iraq's Kurdish region say their contracts on oil exports are legal.
