Victory, a slap on face of powerful countries

Power and Energy Minister and Sri Lanka Freedom Party Deputy Secretary Pavithra Wanniarachchi issuing a statement yesterday said the people have spoken at the Southern and Western Provincial Council Elections and have reiterated that the UPFA is the only party which can direct the country towards development while protecting human rights.

She observed the victorious result of these elections was a slap on the face of the powerful countries which thought Sri Lanka was a puppet state that could be controlled as they wish.

Wanniarachchi observed that even when the number of seats won by all the opposition parties are counted together, it is less than the number of seats won by the UPFA.

She noted the results proved the abiding faith the people have placed in the government, adding that it is the duty of all newly elected political representatives to provide a committed service to the people in return.
