Milwaukee, WI (PRWEB) February 24, 2014
Have you ever driven past a field of windmills and wondered who maintains them and keeps them running? It could be you, with an associate degree or diploma in Wind Energy Technology, now available from Herzing University – Online.
“Wind energy is one of the most promising green energy sources and it is growing rapidly across the country,” said Nigel Longworth, campus president of Herzing University – Online. “Our new Wind Energy Technology program is well suited to people who enjoy solving logical systems challenges, and it will enable them to join a growing industry with a lot of career potential across many technical systems jobs.”
The United States has enough wind power capacity to power 15 million homes, and wind energy was the number one source of new energy generating capacity for the country for the year, according to a 2012 report from the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA). There are more than 45,000 operating utility-scale wind turbines operating in the U.S. across 39 states and Puerto Rico, providing jobs for more than 80,000 people and growing.
The Herzing University Wind Energy Technology program covers industrial safety, applied and wind energy physics, energy production from wind and wind energy maintenance. It also covers DC and AC electricity, motors and generators, fluid power, programmable logic controllers and basic mechanics. In addition, students will earn certification in OSHA 10, basic safety and CPR, and a Suzlon Climbing Certificate.
Charles Clayton, Training Manager at Suzlon Wind Energy’s North American training facility agreed that interest in wind energy is on the rise. “Wind energy is just cresting on its potential,” he said. Herzing University is partnering with Suzlon, the 5th largest turbine manufacturer in world, to provide students with a hands-on training component. At the end of the Herzing University wind energy technology program, students will spend two weeks at Suzlon’s 12,000-square-foot training facility—the only facility in the Americas to offer a fully operational, working-height wind turbine dedicated exclusively for training.
The Herzing University diploma program in Wind Energy Technology can be completed in a year and the associate of science degree can be completed in 20 months. To learn more or register for classes, students are encouraged to contact admissions at 1-800-596-0724, or visit http://www.herzing.edu.
