Japan's Inpex delays off-shore LNG project

May 14, 2010 - 4:22PM

Japan's top oil and gas explorer Inpex Corp said it now sees production of liquefied natural gas from the Ichthys LNG project starting in the fourth quarter of 2016, pushing back a planned 2015 start date.

Inpex will make a final investment decision on the LNG project in northwest Australia in the fourth quarter of 2011, the company said on its website, later than an earlier target of 2010 for the plan.

Inpex has a 76 per cent stake in the Ichthys project, while France's Total SA holds the rest.

LNG output from the Ichthys project is expected to top 8 million tonnes a year, equal to more than a 10th of Japan's imports, in addition to 1.6 million tonnes a year of liquefied petroleum gas and up to 100,000 barrels a day of condensate at peak output.
