April 14 -- Royal Dutch Shell Plc’s Nigerian unit suspended oil output at its offshore EA field to enable repair works after a storm, the company said. “Production of some 100,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day has been deferred,” Shell said, referring to the field’s output level when it was shut, in an e-mailed statement. EA has an installed capacity to produce 115,000 barrels of crude a day.
The equipment connecting the floating, production, storage and offloading vessel for the oil field, which was scheduled for overhaul in May, had to be fixed urgently following a storm on March 26, the company said today.
Shell operates the EA field as part of a joint venture in which state-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. has a 55 percent stake. Shell has 30 percent, Total SA 10 percent and Eni SpA owns 5 percent.
Nigeria vies with Angola to be Africa’s top oil producer, shipping about 40 percent of its crude exports to the U.S.
