Praia, Cape Verde, 9 April – European oil company Shell plans to move out of Cape Verde, having put its company on the archipelago up for sale along with 20 other subsidiaries in African countries, the chairman of Shell Cabo Verde said Thursday in Praia.

Speaking to Rádio Nacional, Emanuel St`Aubyn said that there were already potential buyers for all of the African distribution subsidiaries.

The Dutch multinational company is mainly focusing on oil production and exploration, and divesting its fuel businesses (refining, distribution and sale) in Africa.

In the same interview St`Aubyn said that the sale of Shell Cabo Verde would not affect any of the commitments made by the subsidiary, including creation of the single fuel logistics company, in partnership with Cape Verdean oil company Enacol and the Cape Verdean state.

As well as Cape Verde, the restructuring process implemented by Shell will affect operation in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, the Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Botswana, Namibia, Madagascar, Mauritius and Reunion, as well as the liquid petroleum gas (LPG) business in South Africa.
