MSIS Rig Tank Cleaning Project Hailed Major Success

10 April 2010
A tank cleaning contract recently completed by Invergordon-based, confined space cleaning and waste management specialist, MS Industrial Services' (MSIS), on behalf of oil and gas service company, Global Energy Group, has been hailed a major success by both companies.

The work, carried out onboard the semi-submersible 714 MODU (Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit) - which is owned by international drilling company Transocean - involved MSIS undertaking a comprehensive cleaning and waste disposal project, whilst the facility was recently berthed in Invergordon.

The contract, worth around £200,000, saw MSIS deploy a team of ten personnel to clean a range of pontoon and deck tanks onboard the rig.

Utilising specialist equipment, the company cleaned the facility's ballast, base oil, potable and fuel tanks and removed waste - via its fleet of vacuum tank vehicles - to be disposed at its licensed Waste Transfer Station, in Invergordon.

Jim MacAskill, MSIS' Operations Director, says he was extremely pleased to see the project - which took around three months to complete - concluded so successfully and believes it further highlights the range of specialised services the company offers.

He said: 'This comprehensive project involved us applying our extensive expertise and experience in confined space cleaning and waste management and to have completed the work so successfully is extremely pleasing.

'An increasing number of companies are recognising that our specialist skills and equipment are ideally suited for projects on oil and gas facilities and we look forward to securing similar contracts in the future - and replicating the impressive results achieved for Global Energy Group on this occasion.'

Global Energy Group's Project Manager, Charlie Davidson, added: "The MSIS approach, technical abilities and personnel safety attitudes provided the correct requirement to complete the works."

MSIS' Offshore Division undertakes various cleaning operations, specialising in niche markets such as FPSO cargo oil tanks and platform separator vessels.
