Malaysia to stress on peaceful nuclear use

Monday April 12, 2010

WASHINGTON: At the Nuclear Security Summit, Malaysia will stress its stand that any nuclear programme should be used only for development and peace.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would be involved in discussions on how the question of anti-proliferation should be tackled at the summit, acting Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim told Malaysian journalists here on Saturday.

Najib is among more than 40 world leaders invited by US President Barack Obama to attend the inaugural summit to forge global cooperation to ensure that nuclear elements and weapons do not fall into the hands of terrorists.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, International Atomic Energy Agency director-general Yukiya Amano and European Council president Herman Van Rompuy will also be attending the event. — Bernama
