Venezuelan Energy and Oil Minister Rafael Ramirez said on Friday his country will seek to keep the current oil output level at the meeting of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) set for March 17 in Vienna.
"The demand does not give strong signs of crude's prices to be recovering, but mild estimations," Ramirez said. The current scenery does not give solid signs to increase production, he added.
The world economic crisis and falling oil prices in 2008 led to a reduction of 4.2 million barrels daily in output by OPEC member countries. Venezuela cut 354,000 barrels daily.
Ramirez said world oil prices averaged 57 US dollars per barrel during the first months of 2009, while currently they are 70 dollars. He added the optimum price should be between 80 and 100 dollars.
Ramirez also said that during the OPEC meeting issues like volume policies, strategies and threats to oil politics would also be discussed.
