NEW YORK, March 2 (Reuters) - U.S. retail gasoline demand rose 0.3 percent in the week to Feb. 26 compared with the previous week, according to a MasterCard SpendingPulse report released on Tuesday.
Gasoline demand averaged 9.385 million barrels per day last week, up from 9.357 million bpd in the week to Feb. 19, the weekly survey showed.
Consumption of the motor fuel in the world's top oil consumer for the week rose by 1.1 percent compared with year-ago levels, while the four-week moving average fell 0.1 percent year-over-year.
The national average retail prices for gasoline rose 7 cents over the week to $2.67 per gallon, up 42 percent from year-ago levels.
MasterCard Advisors estimates retail gasoline demand based on aggregate sales activity in the MasterCard payments system coupled with estimates for all other payment forms including cash and checks.
