US quietly backing Argentina in dispute with Britain over Falklands oil

The US government is quietly backing the Argies in their dispute with Britain over exploitation of oil fields around the Falklands.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton held talks with Argentina’s president Cristina Kirchner and urged the two governments to get together and “resolve the outstanding issues”.

There’s nothing to resolve.

It’s our oil, we must be free to realise its value. I had my doubts about Thatcher’s Falklands War in 1982, and I get a tired of whingeing islanders but after the loss of so much blood and treasure, Britain has a perfect right to exploit these potentially valuable reserves.

And if Washington wants our continued support in Afghanistan, the US government should respect our sovereignty. Take note, namby-pamby Foreign Secretary David Miliband, on whom Hillary has a silly schoolgirl crush.
