West Vencedor to join Seadrill fleet

Before 2009 is out, Keppel FELS Limited expects to deliver West Vencedor, the sixth of seven semisubmersible drilling tenders, the yard is fabricating for Seadrill Limited Keppel FELS says the completion of this project will be on time and within budget and tops out a record year of 13 rig deliveries for the yard.

West Vencedor, built to Keppel's KFELS semisubmersible drilling tenders (SDT) 3600E design, is expected to begin development drilling operations offshore Angola under a five-year contract with Chevron subsidiary Cabinda Gulf Oil Company in 1Q 2010.

The first of Seadrill's KFELS SSDT fleet, West Pelaut, was designed and built by Keppel FELS in 1994, and was conferred the Shell Platform Rig of the Year award in 2004, 2006 and 2008.

The purpose-built KFELS SSDT allows drilling tenders to be deployed next to deepwater floating platforms for the first time. With this technology breakthrough, the KFELS SSDT became the first drilling tender to operate in waters of about 1000m in the West Seno field, offshore Indonesia in 2003, and to be deployed against a Spar platform in the Kikeh deepwater field, offshore Malaysia in 2008.

Construction of the seventh SSDT and two jackups at Keppel FELS remains on schedule with expected deliveries extending from 2Q 2010 into 2Q 2011. When these three are completed, Keppel-built rigs will make up 35% of Seadrill's premium fleet.
