New Delhi, India (AHN) - India will be importing natural gas to the tune of 30 million standard cubic meter per day from Iran. No time frame has been provided as yet as to when the import would begin as discussions on various modalities are still on.

"India is pursuing the import of natural gas from Iran through the said project. Issues such as pricing, delivery point, project structure, etc., are being focused on. Such multilateral projects involve protracted discussions and as such no time frame can be indicated for completion of discussions," an official release said on Wednesday.

Last month, the two countries had discussed the issue of bilateral energy cooperation during the visit of Iran's foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki.

The two sides had also discussed the development of Chabahar Port and Railway Project, and the International North South Corridor.

During his visit it was agreed that Iran will facilitate the setting up of an Indian Cultural Center in Tehran. An Indian cultural week will also be held in Tehran and Shiraz in 2010.

India and Iran also discussed trade facilitation mechanisms and the need for an early conclusion of a Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement.

A delegation led by Seifollah Jashnsaz, Deputy Minister in the Iranian Ministry of Oil and President of National Iran Oil Company had also visited India from between November 30 - December 3, 2009.

The two sides held discussions on various aspects of bilateral cooperation between India and Iran in the oil and gas sector.
